Graduation is coming up for our Secret Lifers – which can only mean graduation ceremonies, parties…and valedictorians.
Read up on our guide for season 4, episode 12 of The Secret Life of the American Teenager, “Pomp”:
  • Betty’s waiting for her flight at the airport (so she can go off to college, yay!), when she runs into a divorce lawyer who finds it more than interesting that she’s divorcing the “Sausage King”.
  • Ricky finds out from school counselor Katelyn that he’s the class valedictorian, which he’s less than thrilled about. And he also isn’t afraid to let Amy know that he doesn’t want to take any part in their graduation party either.
  • Jack hatches a plan to get closer to Grace while they work together on a school assignment.
  • Lauren’s dad (her real one, Dr. Fields) doesn’t want Lauren to go to the graduation party.
  • George has suspicions that Anne and Nora might be getting a little close. Too close. (Hey, maybe his fantasy of getting two women in bed will come true! Lol.)

ABC Family's family is growing, in more ways than one.

The Lying Game (premiering Monday, 9 ET/PT) is one of nine original series it will broadcast this year, its most ever. The cable network, which opened a third night of original programming to accommodate the large number of shows, has expanded into comedy and is exploring more music and fashion content, the latter of which will be an element of the upcoming scripted series, Jane by Design.
At the same time, it has increased its audience for the seventh year in a row. For second-quarter primetime, it was up 9% year-to-year in viewers (1.34 million) and 19% in women 18-34 (236,000), which covers most of the network's target demographic.

ABC Family, which focuses on young women from teens on up, has "reflected the taste (they) were looking for. For us, that opportunity to bring together authentic, real, relatable programming with warmth and optimism is at the heart of everything we do," network president Michael Riley says.
July was the network's best month ever among females 12 to 34, with Pretty Little Liars, The Secret Life of the American Teenager(photo t the left) and new series Switched at Birth(photo to the right) taking the top three spots in that category, respectively, among original, scripted cable series.
The network, which once struggled to attract viewers, has drawn those younger women, whom it calls "millennials," without alienating the larger audience, says Sam Armando, director of video analysis for Chicago ad firm SMGx.

"They've been picking up their female demographics but they haven't really lost in adults 18 to 49, and a lot of times you don't see that," he says. "What ABC Family has been able to avoid are the quarters with huge valleys" in viewership.
Beyond the audience numbers, ABC Family became only the second network to receive an "excellent" rating from GLAAD for its portrayal of gay and lesbian characters.
Riley says Game, a mystery that focuses on identical twins (Alexandra Chando) searching for their birth parents, fits the network's strategy. It is based on a novel by Sara Shepard, the author of the Pretty Little Liars( series.

In Game, Emma, who comes from a rough foster care environment, takes over the identity of her twin, Sutton, while the latter follows a lead about their birth mother. When Sutton fails to return at the appointed time, Emma must decide whether to reveal the false identity to the former's wealthy, loving, adopted family.
Chando, who was intrigued by the opportunity to play two characters, says Game's appeal extends beyond one genre. "There's mystery and romance in it, and different dynamics and different relationships between family members, boyfriends and girlfriends, best friends and sisters," she says. "It's definitely a mystery, but it also has a lot of heart."

Executive producer Charles Pratt Jr., who has worked on such series as All My Children, Desperate Housewives and Melrose Place, finds numerous intriguing aspects to the show.
"The adolescent struggle of an adopted child to find their biological parent appealed to me. The twin aspect was an added bonus and, in a story that has mysterious or melodramatic elements, it was something I had experience with and liked," he says.

He also likes how the adult characters are drawn in detail and incorporated into the story, which isn't always the case with programming aimed at teens and young adults.
ABC Family takes care in casting adults, Riley says, and looks for "experienced, seasoned actors." Many of them, including Game's Helen Slater (Supergirl), Switched at Birth's Lea Thompson (Back to the Future) and The Secret Life of the American Teenager's Molly Ringwald (Sixteen Candles), had experience in young adult roles, too, and are well known to millennials' parents, he says.
"We're creating the fabric of a family and want to make sure all the characters are multidimensional and have the opportunity to interact with our young adults," Riley says. "One of the things I hear most this summer about Switched at Birth is the ability to have parents and millennials watching the show together."

Secret Life’s Megan Park Lands a Guest Spot on Happy Endings!

Megan Park might be all cookies n’ cream on Secret Life of the American Teenager, but she’s busting out her inner biatch during an upcoming guest starring role on ABC’s Happy Endings!

Megan and Make It Or Break It’s Nicole Gale Anderson(photo to the right) will play a pair of high school mean girls named Chloe and Madison, who decide that Alex (Elisha Cuthbert) and Penny (Casey Wilson) are their new role models. As long as Megs is eating cookies the whole time, we’re down for anything.

You can see Megan in all her glory during Happy Endings’ second season, set to air October 5 on ABC!

Did Ricky and Amy Go Through With Their Tattoos on Secret Life? You Tell Us!

Ricky and Amy’s fight in The Secret Life of the American Teenager episode 4.10 “4-1-1” was their worst yet. But you know what always cures the near-breakup blues? No, not make-up sex — matching finger tattoos!

Even better? Matching wedding band finger tats. Picture this: You can pretend to get married without actually getting married, and if you end up splitting up, all you will have lost is an hour of your life in a tattoo parlour! (And your dignity.)

Hmmm, maybe this isn’t a good idea after all.

We could hardly believe our ears when Amy suggested that she and Ricky ink-up their ring fingers! Do you think Ramy went through with it, or did they just go home and make sweet sausage love instead?

6 Biggest WTF Moments From Secret Life Season 4, Episode 10: ''4-1-1''

Do you love Secret Life of the American Teenager unconditionally? So do we! But sometimes we scratch out heads and go: “What the whaaaa?” If you ended this episode filled with Secret Life joy, but also some mild confusion about certain teens and their sexy antics, you’re in luck! We’ve rounded up the biggest WTF moments from season 4, episode 10, “4-1-1.”

4x11 "The Games We Play" Promo - The Secret Life of the American Teenager

Secret Life of the American Teenager Recap of Season 4, Episode 10, ''4-1-1''

Ahhh, Secret Life of The American Teenager. Just when we think you’ve reached your peak, you blow us away all over again. It must have something to do with the wind generated every time Ricky flips his hair coif.

Drama ran high in last night’s episode “4-1-1,” as tends to be the case when people send naked pictures of under-aged girls to everyone on their phone. Wait, WTF? Check out Wetpaint Entertainment’s most scandalous recap of the season to find out what went down in Sausage Town!

Sext On A Stick

Photo: Who just showed up at Ricky's place? He looks surprised, but is it a good surprise or bad surprise?
Amy and Ricky are having major relationship problems because of last week’s booty call message incident, and they haven’t been living together for a whole week! Ricky claims he was only saving Adrian’s messages to use as “evidence” against her, but we think he’s just trying to turn this thing around and make himself into a victim. Sigh. Studs, right?

Maybe it’s a good thing that The Rickster kicked Amy out of his sausage pad, because he gets a surprise visit from Ethan, his foster brother from another mother who ran away from home after stealing a set of antique scalpels. What, you didn’t know Ricky had a brother with a knife fetish? Neither did we, Secret Life writers. Neither. Did We.

Ethan’s in big trouble because he revenge sexted a naked picture of his sixteen-year-old ex-girlfriend to everyone on his phone, and now her dad is trying to have him arrested. Clearly there’s only one person who can rectify this hot mess: Ricky “Virgin Impregnator” Underwood. (And the police.)

Ricky agrees to accompany Ethan to the po-pos’ office so he can turn himself in, but first he calls Margaret, who puts Ethan in touch with Adrian’s dad. Honestly, we don’t know if Ruben is the right person to handle a sexting scandal. We haven’t forgotten about the time he accidentally flashed his junk to Amy in her kitchen.

Meanwhile, Amy’s beating herself up for listening to Ricky’s messages, and to make her feel better, George admits that he’s read all of her texts and emails. Oh, George. We have so many feelings about you, and none of them are positive. At least Daddy Juergens isn’t the only snoop in Preggers-City — Madison and Lauren regularly check their boyfriends’ phones, too!

Amy heads over to Ricky’s apartment before school (presumably to beg for forgiveness and weep all over his six pack) and is surprised to meet Ethan, who’s like, “Damn, your baby mama is smokin’!” (in so many words).

Later that day, Ethan sits down with his ex’s dad, a cop and Ruben, who tell Ethan that he’s going to be arrested for distribution of child pornography and put in juvie!

Lesson learned: Sexting equals jail time.

Friends With Benefits
Photo: Adrian looks happier than ever with Ben. We hope she's got good intentions for Ben, and doesn't just use him as a pawn in her war to win Ricky.
Ben and Adrian have finally come to the mutual decision to get a divorce, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t still attracted to each other. After all, how can Ben resist Adrian’s crazy eyes and adorable habit of punching holes in the wall? Adrian offers to be Ben’s bestie with benefits, and they proceed to get jiggy with it all over their condo. Let’s just hope they remember how condoms work this time ‘round.

At first we thought Adrian was suffering from depression, then we realized she had a binge eating disorder, and now we’ve finally discovered the truth: Girlfriend is a full-blown sex addict and she’s willing to destroy the lives of innocent children (we love you, Baby John!) just to bone Ricky.

Grace is worried about Adrian’s obsession with getting lucky, so what does she do? She gets Daniel to set Adrian up with his hot upstairs neighbor, Dante (played by Lil’ Bow Wow!). Adrian agrees to slut it up with him, but just to make Ricky jealous.

The fab four head over to Daniel’s pad, where Adrian tells Dante all about how she’s a soon-to-be divorcee with the hots for her ex-boyfriend. Apparently this is a turn on, because they head out to find the perfect spot on her body for a tattoo — which she promptly sexts to Ricky.

O-to-the-M-to-the-G, what is happening to our dear, sweet, Adrian?!

Pretty Young Things

Sl410sneak3-3219665634722995472
Photo: Even though it's the back of her head, you can tell that Adrian just brings down the whole vibe between Amy, Lauren and Madison in the Grant High hallway.
In the world of Secret Life’s resident randoms, Lauren and Jesse are back together and Madison is single, ready to mingle, and feels majorly left out of the dating loop. We’ll go ahead and assume Mad’s wearing that denim tube top/ t-shirt combo as an outward expression of her inner feelings: Confuzzled.

Meanwhile, in Sausage Town, Leo drops by the butcher shop to announce that he and Betty are breaking up because she wants to go to college, and then he re-hires Nora as his personal assistant. Good for Betty and Nora!

By the way, for all of you wondering where the hell Ashley is, it turns out she and Toby are flirting with whoring their bodies out for medical experiments which may or may not cause liver failure and death.

Meat: It’s What’s For Dinner

Photo: It looks like Amy & Ricky carved out some time for a secret chat. It looks a little intese. Are they headed for splitsville?
It seems like Adrian’s plan to win Ricky back just might work, because Amy and Ricky can’t seem to get past their trust issues. After a rough day at school, Amy goes home to hang with her pop while he makes (what else?) a giant T-bone steak, and Ricky shows up to admit that he’s snooped in Amy’s phone, just like she snooped in his! Too bad Ricky’s honesty doesn’t seem to make Amy feel better, and she storms out in a huff.

Luckily, once Ricky has his fix of meat he gives Amy the apology she deserves. Of course, it all boils down to his traumatic childhood and anger issues, but that’s nothing a big hug from his baby mama can’t fix! Awwww, we’re so happy these two are back together — especially since they’re skipping off arm-in-arm to get matching wedding band tattoos. Yes, you read that right.

Tune in next week to an all-new Secret Life to see if Ramy really went through with their romantic body inking! ‘Til death do they part, ladies!
